Learner Response

Total marks - 19/42
Grade - 3

WWW- Although this isn't where we want to be at the end of the course, this is a great lesson in exam technique. It's clear you know the CSPs, terminology and theory but need to develop the focus and structure of your exam answers to maximise your marks.

EBI - Question focus is crucial: in Q4 you clearly know the Galaxy advert but don't focus on narrative and           narrative theory.
   - Your 12 mark answers need more depth and organisation. E.g. your Q7 Tatler answer drifts into repetition. Instead, plan 3 detailed paragraphs : Title, colour and typography; cover lines; central image. Then link each paragraph back to Q - social and cultural contexts of British society.

2) Look at Question 3 in the assessment - the media analysis of the Under Armour advert.
Colours - red shirt suggests passion. It may also represents the Welsh rugby teams.
Flood light - suggests excitement and big event. In addition, the shape of the Brand logo reinforces brand identity.

3) Look at Question 4. What is Todorov's theory of equilibrium? How does it link to the Audrey Hepburn Galaxy advert?
It starts with an equilibrium followed by a disruption leading to a new equilibrium. In the Galaxy advert, it starts with in media res where the bus driver has crashed into a fruit store. Then a handsome man turns up next to Audrey Hepburn who casually gets off the bus and makes the handsome man her new driver.

4) What social class is Reveal aimed at?
It is aimed at a working class mainstream audience.

5) Pick three cover lines from Tatler that reflect upper class British culture and society.
“Millennial Stones” - wealth. Shows that only Tatler readers will understand
“She looks good in pearls” -  shows wealth in the British society. Showing the main white ethnicity female model may perhaps give a suggestion of only white people look good in pearls in the British culture.
“Aristo Buddy” -  short word for aristocrat.
